We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for hands-on prototyping, hardware assembly, and rapid design iteration. You will contribute directly to the physical design, fabrication, and mechanical integration of our sensor and compute platforms across diverse deployment domains; ranging from rugged automotive setups to weight-critical aerial systems where every gram matters.
Working within our dynamic robotics team, you will immediately contribute to brainstorming sessions, bringing practical insights on mechanical and electrical constraints. You will build robust systems that go straight into the field on real cars, drones, and other test platforms. As you gain experience, you will take full ownership of our vehicle fleet and mechanical systems.
Design, model, and iterate custom sensor mounts, enclosures, and structural components using Fusion 360 (or similar).
Perform mechanical assembly and integration, including basic wiring, soldering, and cable routing for test vehicles and drones.
Utilize workshop equipment and rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, hand tools, basic fabrication) to quickly move from concept to functional physical hardware.
Maintain, service, and prepare test platforms and vehicles for field operations.
Collaborate with the robotics team during early-stage brainstorming to define mechanical constraints and help set timelines.
Conduct rapid experimental testing and physical iterations before finalizing designs for production or long-term deployment.
HBO, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design Engineering, or a related field (must-have)
Hands-on CAD experience in Fusion 360, backed by presentable projects or portfolio examples (e.g., functional 3D prints, mechanical assemblies) (must-have)
Practical mechanical assembly experience and high affinity for working in a workshop environment (must-have)
Interest in performing basic electrical tasks (soldering, cable routing, wiring)—prior experience is a plus, but enthusiasm to learn on the job is sufficient (must-have)
Flexible, reliable mindset that thrives on rapid experimentation and fast iterations while keeping track of all hardware components amidst shifting priorities (must-have)
Demonstrated ability to take a wild concept from initial sketch to prototype and physical realization
Prior hands-on experience with soldering, crimping, or custom cable harness assembly
Understanding of 3D coordinate systems and transformations
Basic familiarity with linux, ROS 2 and software tools like Docker
Proactive can-do mentality with strong sense of ownership
